Downloaded this today not really expecting much, it looked like a dumbed down version of the first F.E.A.R, which was very , very scary and atmospheric, and this looked like a polar opposite, with very little atmosphere and tension.
How wrong I was.
After waiting about half an hour for the demo to download, it's like 800 mb, I whacked it on, and turned the volume up, hoping at least for it to be a good waste of time.
The demo starts with Alma apparently having escaped, and having wreaked havoc on a city, with destroyed cars, buildings and motorways littering the landscape. After watching an innocent member of your team get slaughtered by a super soldier, you kill him in revenge, and get your first weapon, a SMG. It only gets better from there.
After rounding a seemingly innocent corner, the game goes all atmospheric, as super soldiers ambush you from all angles. Seemingly beat, a "Press Y to use Slow-Mo" tip flashes up, and this is where the game really gets into its stride. Slow Mo makes an already good looking game beautiful, and popping someone with a shotgun in Slow Motion, or using a grenade and watching the explosion in Slow Motion really shows the graphics off.
You soon aquire a vast range of arnaments, including a extremly powerful sniper rifle, a satisfyingly destructive Assault Rifle, and a huge Rocket launcher!
After a edge of your seat sequence in a abandoned school, you eventually greet a Mech, a giant walking all owning robot with missles and a huge machine gun, mowing down all in your path. The demo ends a bit into this sequence, leaving you wishing for more.
Overall, it's one of the most fun and atmospheric demos I've ever played, and I'll definetly keep an eye out for it.
